East London daytime eatery launches delivery concept

Launching tomorrow, Wednesday 14 October, Snackbar, the neighbourhood daytime spot in Dalston Junction from Freddie Janssen, will be bringing flavour-packed lunches straight to your home with a new delivery concept, Snackbar At Home.

Taking cues from her favourite Dutch snack bars of her youth and her lifelong love for fast food, Janssen (pictured) has created a menu that plays on some much-loved classics with a focus on the highest quality ingredients as well as the pickles and ferments for which Janssen is best known.

Whether working from home, looking for a comfort food fix or needing to perk up from the night before, Snackbar is available to order straight to the doorstep.

Using bread from Spence Bakery in Stoke Newington and Casey’s in Clapton, and cheese from Neal’s Yard Dairy, Snackbar At Home creations include the Snacky Meal, a SnackMuffin filled with house-made pork sausage, a fried egg and American cheese with a dill pickle hash brown and freshly made lemonade.

Sandwiches include a baguette loaded with Coronation Chicken salad and pickles with poppadoms, and a Vegan Sloppy Joe, a sesame bun with pickled shiitake mushrooms and freshly made mushroom crisps on the side.

Adding her twist to popular classics, Janssen will also be making a Filet O Fish Finger Sandwich, with a milk bun, crispy beer-battered fish, American cheese, tartare sauce made with house pickles and salt and vinegar crisps, as well as a Mission Burrito made with bavette steak, rice, slow cooked beans and cheese with salsa verde guacamole.

For lighter bites, snacks will include a Kimcheese Croissant, stuffed with Snackbar kimchi, Montgomery Cheddar and Stichelton, a chocolate cookie made with Pump St chocolate and rye, and a vegan-friendly banana bread made with tahini and Minor Figures oat milk. Ice cream sandwiches from Happy Endings will be available to order too.
The drinks menu will feature cocktails created by pioneering spirits brand Empirical, the spirits label from Noma alumni, whose office is based just upstairs at Snackbar. On offer will be a Paloma made with

Empirical’s habanero flavoured ‘Fuck Trump And His Stupid Fucking Wall’ mixed with grapefruit soda from Hackney-based Three Cents, served with a Gordal olive, and a smoky Margarita made with ‘Ayuuk’, an Empirical spirit made with Oaxacan pasilla chiles, with agave and lime.

Empirical cans 01,with notes of gooseberry, oolong tea and toasted birch, and 02, with flavours of sour cherry, blackcurrant buds, young pine cones and walnut wood, will provide a twist on fizzy pop.

Snackbar’s house-made soft drinks include lemonade and a hibiscus agua fresca, while Japanese Pocari Sweat straight out of Snackbar’s ‘hangover fridge’ is available by the can. Pacifico beer and wines such as Chin Chin Vinho Verde and Tutti Frutti Ananas are available by the bottle.

Janssen said, ?“Snackbar at Home is an offering we put in place in March, within 24 hours of lockdown being announced, and now it’s here to stay as a permanent feature. With more and more people working at home again, we wanted to bring the ideal #WorkingFromHome lunches to people’s doors, so we’ve created a menu of Snackbar classics alongside some new fun dishes.

'It’s the kind of sink-your-teeth-into comfort food that makes you feel good about yourself, made with top quality ingredients, punchy flavours, and lots of pickles obviously!.'

Snackbar At Home is a natural extension of Snackbar’s daytime offering, which sees Freddie cooking bold breakfasts and punchy lunches taking influence from all over the world. Throughout the week, guests can take a seat at one of Snackbar’s yellow Formica tables for lunch in the bright and airy space, lined with shaker pegs and house plants, or head out to the terrace in the back garden.

Snackbar At Home will be available to eat in at Snackbar, take away or order for delivery via Slerp, Big Night and Deliveroo.

Snackbar At Home is available to order Wednesday - Sunday between 12pm and 3pm.
