Tortilla to open new Southwark restaurant

Mexican fast-food restaurant chain, Tortilla has secured an additional Central London site through Shelley Sandzer. Due to open in the spring, the new site is located at 1 The Cut, directly opposite Southwark Underground Station.

The unit spans a total of 1,100 sq ft across basement and ground floor level, with space for 32 covers. Designed by Fusion DNA, the new restaurant has adopted the design brief for the new baby Tortilla format of smaller stores serving the local business community. The brand, which has a portfolio of 36 sites across the UK, recently reported record sales in 2018, with like-for-likes up 6%.

Rob Lucy, Property Director at Tortilla, said, “2018 was a good year for Tortilla and we are excited to continue this momentum with a number of new openings in 2019. We have worked with Shelley Sandzer for many years across several of our sites, so we know we can rely on their expert knowledge of the industry to deliver the very best locations across the country.”

Casey Philips, partner at Shelley Sandzer, said: “Tortilla is the perfect example of an operator that understands their customer and continues to deliver the right product in the right environment. Whether it be from a professional services or leasing perspective, our personal approach means we truly understand all aspects of their business so we too can get it right. We are delighted to continue this strong working relationship and support the brand’s expansion.”

Shelley Sandzer’s Professional Services team has recently concluded rent reviews at Tortilla's sites in Westfield Stratford, Islington, Bankside, Brighton and Canary Wharf. The team are currently instructed at various locations across the capital, including Clapham, Camden and Market Place.
