Marugame Udon set to open 10th site this Saturday

Marugame Udon, winner of the R200 Best Value Restaurant award, continues to grow across London with the opening of their tenth kitchen on The Strand this Saturday, 11 March.

Following nine successful openings across the city, Marugame Udon will bring a taste of Japan's favourite Sanuki udon kitchen to the heart of London’s theatreland.

Marugame Udon’s tenth opening and third UK flagship will see a 518 sq. ft restaurant with 98 covers located at 449 The Strand. Marugame Udon will celebrate its milestone tenth restaurant with a Cherry Blossom themed Matsuri (Matsuri ??= Festival in Japanese) and tonnes of ways for guests to get involved and grab freebies.

Various shows and entertainment will be put on at the new restaurant on grand opening day including Cherry Blossom themed Marugame Matsuri and the Haiku treasure hunt. Guests will see the new udon kitchen bloom in Sakura with live music specially curated for hanami and have fun with some cherry blossom manga art.

CEP Keith Bird noted, “We’re delighted to be opening our 10th kitchen on The Strand in the heart of London’s Theatreland. With The Strand welcoming thousands of tourists each year, we’re excited to be expanding Marugame Udon once again introducing Udon to all.

'Our great value fast-casual dining concept is key for the hustle and bustle of The Strand and our affordable bowls are perfect for pre and post theatre meals for the whole family.”

Diners at The Strand can expect to be greeted with the open-style kitchen where they will be in the centre of the hustle and bustle of the udon kitchen. Marugame Udon has bundles of freshly made and budget-friendly Japanese dishes to suit all tastes.

The menu at Marugame Udon features over 20 dishes that are under £5, including udon bowls, tempura, omusubi rice balls, and delicious desserts like dorayaki pancakes and unlimited soft serve ice cream.

Guests can tuck into main dishes such as a hearty bowl of hand-made udon noodles or curry and rice and pair them with a side of light and crispy tempura often for less than a tenner! Simply pick up a tray and place your order at the counter.

All of Marugame’s udon noodles are made fresh in-house throughout the day, using three simple ingredients wheat, salt and water, a traditional recipe which creates a chewier ‘mochi mochi’ texture of the Sanuki style thick udon noodle. The simplest way to enjoy Marugame’s fresh noodles costs just £3.45 for Kamaage - udon straight from the Kama (pot) served in Kama water with sweet and smoky BK fish dashi for dipping.

Marugame Udon made its UK and European debut in London in 2021 with its flagship site off Liverpool Street, followed by eight successful openings, The O2, Canary Wharf, St Christopher’s Place, Brent Cross, Oxford Circus, Bromley, Waterloo and High Street Kensington. Marugame Udon’s new The Strand restaurant will be its tenth in London, continuing its mission to introduce udon to all.
