New £3.2m Wetherspoons to open in Leeds tomorrow

Pub operator JD Wetherspoon is to open its latest site, The Golden Beam in Headingley, Leeds tomorrow, creating 70 new jobs.

The company has invested £3.2m developing the outlet, which is on the site of the former Elinor Lupton Centre in Headingley Lane.

The Grade II-listed building was built in 1934 and the pub has retained the original auditorium as the main ground floor bar area. It has an 8.5-metre-high ceiling with a large glass panel, illuminating the space below. The existing church organ façade has been re-purposed as a feature fireplace.

There is an outdoor terrace, with seating screened from the road, at the front of the building.

The Golden Beam is managed by Chris Donoghue, who commented, “Myself and my team are looking forward to welcoming customers into the pub and we are confident that it will be a great addition to the Headingley community.”
