Co-op reveals opening date of new food store in Doncaster


Central England Co-op can today reveal the launch date of its brand new community store in Doncaster.

The Society will officially open its new store in High Street, Barnby Dun, on Friday, 3 July offering the local community food and essentials on their doorstep.

In line with the latest Government guidance, the store will have a range of social distancing measures in place, including special floor markings, one-way system, external queuing, hygiene changes such as a hand sanitising station upon entry and safety devices such as plastic screens at checkouts and visors for all colleagues.

The store is on the site of the former Star Inn public house in the village and will feature a customer car park with electric car charging points, a full range of products, a free water refill station, phone charging area and customer toilet.

The store will offer fresh fruit and vegetables, an in-store bakery offering breads and pastries, chilled beers and wines, fresh and frozen product, Irresistible product ranges, as well as a great selection of food-to-go.

It will also a Costa Coffee machine and an instant hot water tap so customers can enjoy a herbal tea, customer seating inside and out.

A food bank collection point will also be installed which will support the great work of Doncaster Food Bank as it continues to manage the increased demand caused by the pandemic.

Barnby Dun Central England Co-operative Store Manager Neil Holmes said, “We are delighted that we will finally be opening the doors and welcoming the community into our brand new store in Barnby Dun.

“These are not the circumstances that we ever imagined launching this fantastic new store in, but we are looking forward to being there with the vital food and essentials locals need in these uncertain times and to being a part of a great community in Barnby Dun.”

The Barnby Dun Co-operative food store will be open from 7am to 10pm, Monday to Sunday.
