Tesco to launch 24-hour pop-up store at Birmingham NHS Nightingale hospital

Tesco is to launch a 24-hour pop-up store at the new 500-bed NHS Nightingale hospital for all staff in Birmingham.

Construction on the Birmingham hospital began on Sunday and Tesco is planning to open the shop by the end of next week. It will sell food and household products.

The capacity at the Birmingham hospital site could be increase to 1,500 beds after it opens to patients two days after the practice runs on 10 April.

Tesco has also confirmed it's in discussions to open similar pop-up stores at other NHS Nightingale hospitals around the country.

The NHS Nightingale Hospital in London was formally opened at the ExCel centre on Friday and other Nightingale Hospitals include one in Manchester, with sites have been earmarked in Harrogate and Bristol.

Tesco's latest initiative follows the company's other new project, SalutetheNHS, which will deliver 1million free meals to NHS staff using Tesco ingredients.
