London Nisa Local set to expand chiller section to meet demand

Plans are afoot for extra chillers to be added to a busy E14 London store, along with additional shelving in existing chillers, to accommodate a growing demand for fresh produce.

Changing shopper habits at the Nisa Local at Virginia Quays has prompted the need to make alterations with ever increasing numbers wanting food for tonight.

The work will see new energy efficient chillers installed at the store and current chillers reconfigured to allow more products to be stocked - increasing space by around 10 per cent.

The store, which sees around 2,000 transactions every day, is situated adjacent to the East India DLR station and sees commuters arrive in their droves, particularly at the end of the working day.

Store manager, Siva Pandian said, “Shoppers are buying on the day, for the day. People come in as they get off their train, as they are walking to their home, and they want something to eat for tonight.”

A full re-lay of chilled categories coupled with the investment in new energy saving, doored chillers, in favour of the current gas-powered ones currently in use will enable the range to be increased and more popular products such as fresh pasta, sauces, soups, juices and ready meals added in.

Pandian added, “Currently we take seven cages of fresh from Nisa every day and we have very little wastage, at just 1%, so the improvements will allow us to broaden the range and add in more lines such as Halal meats, organic and gluten free products.”
