Costa Free Coffee Day reveals latte as top choice


Costa Express, the UK’s leading innovator of barista quality, machine crafted coffee is today thanking customers for being part of Free Coffee Day.

The largest sampling campaign in the brand’s history saw over 3,000,000 individual cups of coffee given away across 8,500+ machines across the UK.

Challenging the nation’s perception of self-serve; Styrofoam cups, abysmal freeze-dried coffee and powdered milk, the campaign encouraged consumers to try a cup of Costa Express which is made with the same fresh signature Mocha Italia coffee beans and fresh semi-skimmed milk you would expect in a Costa Coffee store.

The state-of-the-art machines also serve sumptuous hot chocolates and a selection of syrups so drinks can be personalised according to taste.

The Costa Express signature Latte won approval of Brits everywhere, with 1.1m cups being dispensed. A very close second was the indulgent Costa Express Hot Chocolate, which was dispensed 1m times.

Then came: 400k Cappuccinos, 180k Mochas, 130k White Americanos and 100k Black Americanos.

“Out of our 8,500+ machines across the UK, less than 1% experienced an unresolved technical issue, but we do appreicate that this still meant people may not have been able to get hold of their free coffee, so we apologise to those who couldn’t get their favourite drink from their selected machine.
