Club Mexicana opens in WC2

Club Mexicana has brought its Mexican-Californian inspired vegan street food to a new home in Kerb’s new Seven Dials Market in London's WC2.

Founded by Meriel Armitage in 2012, with the aim to change the perception of vegan food in the UK, Club Mexicana has since built a reputation for the city’s best street food, packed with flavours reminiscent of the West Coast from Los Angeles down to Baja California, Mexico.

Transporting visitors to the vibrant bodegas and Mezcal bars of Mexico City, the menu boasts a varied offering of newly created dishes alongside existing favourites, which already have a cult following.

Kicking things off with the Cheezeburger Burrito filled with a ‘beef’ burger, red pepper queso, annatto mayo, pico de gallo and salsa negra; the Al Pastor ‘pork’ taco with shawarma style ‘pork’, charred pineapple, onion coriander salsa and pickled cauliflower; and the Mushroom & Smoked Tofu Taco with chipotle mushrooms, smoked tofu, and paprika and tahini salsa.

Club Mexicana’s signature hot pink neon is set off by walls awash with tropical artwork reincarnating the bold colours and upbeat tone of Wham!’s much loved Club Tropicana where the drinks famously flow freely.

Kitsch cocktail classic, the frozen margarita is on the menu in collaboration with Square Root soda including the Classic Margarita with fresh lime, Hibiscus and zesty Pink Grapefruit. The bar is stocked with Five Points craft beer and pale ale alongside a selection of natural wines.

‘When I started Club Mexicana it was Kerb that really gave me the opportunity to join them at King’s Cross, so it feels like a big deal for all of us to be reuniting in Central London. I can’t wait to have a proper party with my old friends with a taco in one hand and a frozen margarita (or two) in the other,’ says Meriel.

Located on Short’s Gardens within an old 19th century banana warehouse, the new, all-day destination from Kerb retains the cast iron beams and brick arches accented with newer furnishings such as the pink Italian Terrazzo marble counters.
