London hotel VP & GM wins global Hotelier of the Year award

Amanda Hyndman, Area Vice President, Operations and General Manager at Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London was voted Hotelier of the Year at the 2019 Virtuoso Best of the Best Awards at the 31st annual Virtuoso Travel Week conference in Las Vegas.

With over 30 years of experience in the luxury hospitality industry, Hyndman joined the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group in 2007 as General Manager of The Excelsior Hong Kong, before taking on GM roles at Mandarin Oriental Washington DC, and Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok where she oversaw the completion of the Authors’.

In April 2019, Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London reopened to great acclaim with Hyndman at the helm, having completed the most extensive restoration in its 117-year history.

The hotel committed to retain all colleagues and delivered 40,000 hours of community service during the temporary closure, and a further commitment of 10,000 hours has been made with many colleagues still volunteering at various local charities.

Hyndman said, “This award is for our entire team who take care of our guests each and every day. It is recognition for their ongoing passion and commitment towards becoming the best, and I am honoured to receive it on their behalf.”

“The Best of the Best Awards celebrate those who embody the Virtuoso spirit by demonstrating leadership in further service and innovation in an industry where excellence is the norm” said Albert Herrera, Virtuoso Senior Vice President, Global Product Partnerships.

Virtuoso’s 20,000 professional travel advisors from 50 countries served as Best of the Best award voters. The nominees included 1,300 carefully selected properties in more than 100 countries and encompassed more five-star hotels than any other programmes.
