Charles Wells acquires St Ives town centre pub

Bedfordshire family brewer, Charles Wells has purchased The Oliver Cromwell in St Ives.

Located towards the quayside of the River Great Ouse, The Oliver Cromwell is a charming 18th Century property, tucked away from the busy high street along the cobbled walk ways, and one of the most significant public houses in St Ives.

The vendors, Jayne Tamblin and Jerry Schonfeldt, will remain at the pub for a further six months in order for a suitable tenant to be secured for this distinguished site and allow an effective handover.

Gareth Hatton of leisure property specialist Fleurets brokered the transaction and commented, “This has been a significant acquisition both for Charles Wells and the Cambridge town of St Ives. It goes to show that these thriving town centre pubs continue to generate interest, not just from independent operators, but notable regional breweries and pub companies.

'Charles Wells have an excellent knowledge of the area, and I am sure that this already popular establishment will continue to go from strength to strength, courtesy of the guidance of Jayne and Jerry who worked so hard to ensure The Oliver Cromwell became one of the most renowned pubs, not just in St Ives but in Cambridgeshire. I wish them all the best for the future”.
