Down Hall unveils £1.2m refurbed weddings & events wing

Luxury Essex country house hotel, Down Hall has opened its West Wing following an extensive £1.2m refurbishment.

Connected to the main house but offering a stand-alone, self-sufficient space, the enhanced wing has been redeveloped to cater specifically for weddings, conferences and corporate events.

Overseen by award-winning designer Rachel McLane Ltd, the West Wing has been completely refurbished to create a 4,150 sqm function space with six event rooms, a private lounge and bar, 54 bedrooms and a dedicated entrance through the newly landscaped gardens which surround the West Wing.

Thoughtfully refurbished to complement the historic architecture of the main house, the West Wing has been reconfigured to create a series of multi-purpose, modular rooms to accommodate large weddings and corporate events for up to 220 guests through to intimate meetings, workshops and parties.

Positioning Down Hall as one of the leading wedding and conference venues in the UK, the refurbishment has introduced a number of unique features to the facilities.

For weddings, this includes The Oxford Room, licenced for civil ceremonies and with garden views and The Bridgeman, fully fitted with floor-to-ceiling windows and doors, a dance floor and its own private garden. T

he bridal parties will also have the use of Liddell, a spacious 55 sqm suite complete with standalone chrome bathtub, and Glasscock, which includes a pool table and wide-screen TV with PS4, and doubles up as a relaxed meeting space for creative sessions, brainstorming and break out time.

Each of the West Wing’s spaces – including smaller rooms with conferencing facilities, touch-screen LEDs and Wi-Fi – will also be available for meetings, conferences, and team-building events. Day-hire packages will sit alongside 24-hour rates, allowing bookers to make use of the West Wing’s bedrooms and dining facilities.

Down Hall’s focus on understated luxury in the main house have been seamlessly translated to the West Wing, where the interiors mix the classic with the contemporary. Each space has been designed with its own identity and character, while bespoke joinery, textured fabrics, delicate floral touches, bespoke artwork and a fresh, neutral colourway with bold accent tones bring modern detailing to the hotel’s country setting.

Mark O’Reilly, General Manager at Down Hall, commented, “We are delighted to officially open our new look West Wing. The refurbishment has been an incredibly important project for us, so it’s fantastic to see plans come to fruition to position Down Hall as one of the finest wedding and conference facilities in the country.”
