Sri Lankan spices meet Thai flavours for Hoppers feast

On Sunday 24 March, Hoppers, the restaurant inspired by the home cooking and roadside stalls of Sri Lanka and southern India, is welcoming award-winning modern Thai street food restaurant, Farang, into its Soho kitchen to kick off the Hoppers Sunday Sessions of 2019.

Guests will gather elbow-to-elbow at large communal tables to enjoy a feast where Sri Lankan spices meet Thai herbs and relishes, with dishes designed to be shared by the whole table.

The menu includes a nutty Smoked Shrimp and Curry Leaf Mix, DIY Crab Miang, Chilli Jam Seabass, Jaffna Duck Leg Kari, Five Spice and Fermented Shrimp Roasted Goat Shoulder and, to finish, Cardamom Donuts with Pandan Dunkin Custard.

To accompany the feast, Bar Manager James Stevenson will be fermenting a special Hoppers’ Toddy, which will be served alongside Sunday special cocktails, Sri Lankan Lion beer, premium bin-end wines and seasonal softs.

Karan Gokani, Director of Hoppers, said, ‘We’re big fans of Farang and are really excited to be joining forces with them to kick off our 2019 Sunday Sessions. The Thai and Sri Lankan flavours complement each other so well so it’s set to be a pretty special event.”

Sebby Holmes, Director and Head Chef of Farang, added, “The ethos behind Sunday Sessions is one we share at Farang and love the idea of bringing people together by their love of food, drink, people and culture so we’re excited to be a part of it.”

This will be the first Sunday Session of an exciting 2019 line up which will include monthly feasts of Lamp Rais (April), Pettah special Buriani (May), Crab Curry (June), Jaffna Home Cooking (July), amongst others.
