Bubbledogs celebrates 5th birthday as Hot Dog Challenge returns

On 4 September, Fitzrovia-based Bubbledogs will be hosting its Hot Dog Challenge. To celebrate Bubbledogs’ 5th birthday, founder Sandia Chang will be throwing down the gauntlet to some of the UK’s finest chefs to compete for the title of top dog in its annual Hot Dog Challenge at London’s Borough Market.

A panel of discerning judges will put the creations to the test in a blind tasting, where one dog will have its day. The winning hot dog will then make a month-long guest appearance on the Bubbledogs menu, with £1 of each dog sold donated equally to Action Against Hunger and Red Cross.

Battling it out on the night will be Matt Larcombe and Jonny Lake from The Crown at Bray, who return to defend their 2016 title, two Michelin-starred chef Tom Kerridge, Shaun Searley from the Quality Chop House, Magnus Reid of Legs, Tomos Parry former head chef of Kitty Fisher’s, Shake Shack’s Mark Rosati, Bonny Porter of Balls & Company and Kitchen Table’s own James Knappett. Sitting on the judging panel include Michelin-starred chef and restaurateur Jason Atherton, Bloomberg’s longstanding restaurant critic Richard Vines, rock ‘n’ roll restaurateur Scott Collins and Richard Turner of Hawksmoor.

Challengers will be working against the clock, with 20 minutes to prepare and serve their hot dog creations using Bubbledogs hand rolled buns and house recipe sausages. Tasked with producing the most inspired hot dog toppings, the panel of experts will mark entries out of ten for; taste, creativity, quality and appearance.

One dog will then reign supreme whilst the others are left in the dog house. Keeping everything in check will be compere for the evening, one of London’s finest food writers and influencers, Joe Warwick.

To take the edge off the fierce competition, Bubbledogs birthday celebrations will be in full swing throughout the evening in true Bubbledogs style. Guests are invited to sip on Champagne and will have the chance to taste each entry for the Hot Dog Challenge in canapé form before making their own judgement on who should reign as Hot Dog champion.

Music will by no means be in the background as the restaurants’ signature soundtrack of old school Hip-Hop pop will be pumping from the live DJ decks. Party goers will also be doing their good deed of the day, with all profits from the evening donated to Action Against Hunger and Red Cross.
