Aquavit London creates Swedish Midsummer menu & events

From 1 June to 31 July, Aquavit London will be celebrating the Swedish tradition of Midsummer with special dishes, a set menu designed for private events and a Midsummer’s Eve event.

With Scandinavia’s long, dark winters, the arrival of summer is one of the most important days of the year. Marking the longest day of the year, Midsummer’s Eve in Sweden is a magical date, met with singing, dancing and an offering of food and drink at the centre of the celebrations.

This year, Aquavit London will bring these festivities to London, serving a traditional Midsommar tallrik (Midsummer dish) available from the a la carte menu throughout the months of June and July. Guests will enjoy four types of herring, Västerbotten tart and new potatoes cooked with dill, a dessert of Strawberries and cream paired with the customary aquavit schnapps, served from the restaurant’s very own bespoke drinks trolley.

Aquavit will also offer a set menu for private parties in the stunning Stockholm or Copenhagen dining rooms. The specially designed menu will feature the Midsommar tallrik and dessert alongside a main course of beef, hasselback potato, smoked béarnaise.

On Friday 23 June, the night of the celebrated Midsummer’s Eve, Aquavit will incorporate all the traditions of the festival. A maypole will feature outside the main entrance of the restaurant, in the redevelopment of St James’s Market where a pop-up bar and food stand will offer authentic drinks and snacks, with live music to add to the festivities.
