Tilda seeks Young Chef of the Year at Great Hospitality Show 2017

Tilda is returning to the world renowned Salon Culinaire at the Great Hospitality Show, with its second Tilda Young Chef of the Year competition, where the next junior rice champion will be crowned.

After the success of its inaugural year at the show in 2015, Tilda returns to the NEC, Birmingham in January 2017 with its junior class, run in conjunction with the Craft Guild of Chefs (Tuesday 24th January, 2.20pm-2.50pm).

Craig Dillon, Head of Tilda Foodservice said: “With an abundance of talent on offer from our industry’s young chefs, we decided in 2015 to open up our adult class – held biennially at sister show, Hotelympia – to the next generation of chefs.

“In 2017, Tilda Young Chef of the Year will again provide the young, talented chefs of today with the opportunity to compete amongst the best in their business and showcase their cooking and presentation skills.”

Dillon continued, “With rice being such a versatile ingredient that sits at the heart of many dishes, we’re excited to see how the new competitors will push the boundaries and innovate to create something special enough to win.”

Chefs will be challenged with preparing, cooking and presenting two portions of a main course using rice as the base ingredient in this 30 minutes class. Competitors will be able to choose from any of the following Tilda range: Easy Cook Basmati, Brown Basmati, Fragrant Jasmine, Arborio Risotto, Original Pure Basmati and Basmati & Wild.

Steve Munkley, Vice President of the Craft Guild of Chefs, said, “We were blown away by the level of talent and work ethic on display in the first Tilda Young Chef of the Year. The bar has been set – and it’s high! I am very much looking forward to judging this next competition and wait in anticipation to see first-hand the fresh ideas and skillset these ambitious young chefs have to offer.”

Tilda Young Chef of the Year 2017 is open to chefs aged 21 or under on or before 1st January 2017. It is being staged on Tuesday 24th January at 2.20pm as part of the Salon Culinaire, a world-class culinary competition, which will be at the heart of the Great Hospitality Show 2017.
