Leics village post office, deli & coffee shop changes hands

Welton’s Post Office and Deli in the popular Leicestershire village of Great Bowden has been sold via Christie & Co.

Welton’s has been owned and operated by Nicky Ransome since November 2009, who has developed the business into a thriving asset for the local community and surrounding villages.

The store benefits from a busy post office, deli and coffee shop, and serves the local village with newspaper deliveries. Above the shop, the property features a large two-bedroom flat.

After launching the business to the open market on behalf of Nicky, Christie & Co received interest from multiple independent operators and new entrants attracted by the store’s good reputation locally and the multiple income streams.

The business has further potentil by extending the opening hours and adding an extension to the side of the property, with their food to go offer becoming more popular due to the locally sourced produce.

The new unnamed operator is keen to settle into the business before making any plans or changes.

Dave Morris, Regional Director in Christie & Co’s Retail team, remarked, “Nicky has worked tirelessly to create a popular destination business in this sought-after village.

'The post office was a vital service for locals during the pandemic and has remained a critical local asset and popular feature for buyers, given the footfall they drive to the business.

“It has been great to help Nicky achieve a sale so she can now look forward to her retirement. We wish her and the new owner all the best for the future.”

Nicky commented, “Firstly, I want to say a big thanks to all our customers who have supported us from the beginning and throughout the last two years, while we were all greatly affected the pandemic.

'Big thanks to Dave Morris at Christie & Co as well, for his help successfully selling our business.”
