Chingón opens second London site

Chingón, the vibrant Mexican eatery from the Smoke & Mercy group, has opened its second site in the new Hawley Wharf Camden development.

Serving tasty tacos, authentic regional dishes and top-notch tequilas and mezcals, the new site comes after the success of the flagship Hatch End restaurant.

The new Chingón joins a hand-picked selection of London’s most exciting food and drink outlets to open at the highly anticipated canalside development in the heart of Camden Town, bringing its signature Mexican zing to the area’s notoriously eclectic visitors.

The neighbourhood’s historic association with excellent street food makes it the perfect place for Chingón to showcase the variety and vibrancy of Mexican gastronomy, as well as its ever-popular refreshments.

The Camden Town menu will focus on tacos, featuring both traditional recipes and innovative flavour combinations from Head Chef Daniel Vergas, a native of Mexico City.

Using the finest Mexican and British ingredients, the offering spans different regional specialities including Pastor Gringa (sliced pork, spicy achiote marinade, diced onion, pineapple, cheese in toasted flour tortilla), Birria Tacos (Adobo marinated beef, diced onion, coriander, cheese, toasted corn tortilla with consommé gravy), Nopales Tacos (grilled Nopales cactus, onion, tomato, feta in corn tortilla), and Baja Fish Tacos (masa corn-fried seabass fillet, pickled cabbage, chipotle mayo, habanero crema in corn tortilla).

But the real show-stopper is Chingón’s signature Taco al Pastor, a tantalising combination of sliced pork roasted traditionally on a trompo (vertical spit), spicy Achiote marinade, diced onion, pineapple, coriander and salsa roja in a corn tortilla. Smaller plates of Guacamole and tortilla chips, and a beautifully fresh Ceviche Bowl will also be on offer, alongside a selection of house-made salsas which can be added to any dish.

In Mexico—and therefore at Chingón too—the drinks are just as important as the food. House cocktails include crowd favourites of Picante Margaritas, Mezcal Palomas and classic Frozen Margaritas, while authentic Mexican tequilas and mezcals will also be available to add to the celebratory atmosphere.

Chingón is part of the successful group, who also own Hotbox, Chuck Burger, and Cavita (opening March 2022).
