The Light Bar set to welcome guests inside

Following the recent opening under its new ownership, The Light Bar finally welcomes guests inside for what the space has always been known for: an epic night out.

Within the former Victorian ‘Great Eastern Light’ power station nearly a decade since it was last enjoyed, nostalgia has been stirred with the resurrection of this iconic Shoreditch venue, famous for its legendary nightlife.

New owners and long-standing Hackney residents, Morten Jensen and Darren Collins, are on a mission to bring the ‘original Shoreditch’ vibe back to the area, now revealing The Light Bar’s multiple drinking areas and music events, alongside the restaurant’s food offering from chef Johnnie Collins.

For The Engine Hall & Terrace, on the ground floor, walk-ins are welcome to sit at large communal tables, or outside on the sunny terrace. Craft beers include Camden Town and Forest Road Brewery on tap, and bottles of independent favourites such as Gipsy Hill Bandit and Hawkes Urban Cider.

Inspired by the clubbing history of Shoreditch, the house cocktails have been named after famous local parties of the early 2000’s, many at which co-owner Jensen DJ’d. Having been a regular at the original The Light club evenings and all-day raves, including Secret Sundaze and The Loft from NYC, his ambition is to honour its past into a new era.

Created by Bar Manager Ilija Kniasev, formerly of Annabel’s, the drinks menu offers signature cocktails such as Girlcore, which is named after the original girl crew who supported and celebrated female talent, fun and freedom with fistfuls of glitter. The cocktail is created with Belvedere vodka, Portobello Sloe gin, fig, berry, champagne cordial, and soda.

Also, The Lovely Jonjo, named after longstanding DJ on the Shoreditch scene, Jonjo Jury, is made from La Hechicera dark rum, Don Q Gold rum, Amaro Montenegro, cassis, lime and tonic.

The Copper Bar is located on the Mezzanine, this is an intimate space with a cocktail menu that invites guests to discover ‘Remixed Classics’, bringing back enticing, historical drinks from the last two centuries.

The Timber Loft is upstairs and features an additional bar, providing the perfect area for private hire. From September, this top floor space will open as an extension of the restaurant, and will host events including a rotating guest list of chef and bartender takeovers.

When restrictions are lifted, live DJ’s on Friday and Saturday nights will kick off with a series of events hosted by those who the cocktail menu has been named after.

Open until 12am, The Light Bar promises to become an East London go-to destination for drinking and eating, offering an unforgettable night out for both discerning cocktail drinkers and those looking for a relaxed, friendly new local.
