New owners for St Andrews hotel after 34 years

The Scores Hotel in St Andrews, Scotland, has been acquired by Wirefox, via Savills, for an undisclosed amount. It will be the first time the property has come under new ownership in 34 years.

The Scores Hotel is a historic 36-room establishment spanning c.3,000 sq ft with a bar, restaurant and events venue overlooking one of the oldest golf courses in the world. The new owners will undertake an extensive refurbishment and repositioning to enhance the property.

St Andrews is possibly the world’s most famous golf destination and will host the 150th Open golf championship in 2022.

Steven Fyfe, Associate Director in the Hotel Capital Markets team at Savills Glasgow, said, “This was an extremely rare opportunity to acquire a special hotel next to the first tee of the Old Course itself.

' With plenty of opportunity to add value, the new owners plan to invest further capital to extend and enhance the property creating more jobs for the local economy.”

Acting for the Vendor, Charles Human of HVS Hodges Ward Elliott, added, “We were excited to have had role in the sale of the hotel by the family owners, and it was gratifying to have completed the disposal following substantial international interest generated in a process that required careful navigation throughout the pandemic.”
