Ohio-headquartered fast food chain, Wendy’s has confirmed that it will be arriving in the UK with outlets in Oxford and Reading, with London in its sights next.
A Wendy's spokesperson said, 'The brand is excited to enter the UK with company-owned and operated restaurants this year, and we are looking for franchisees to grow with us across the United Kingdom.”
Brits can expect the following on the menu when the brand lands here:
> Spicy Chicken Sandwich
- chicken breast marinated and breaded in a fiery blend of peppers and spices with lettuce, tomato, & mayo
> Avocado Chicken Salad
- Wendy's signature lettuce blend, cheddar cheese, diced tomatoes, avocado, Applewood smoked bacon & grilled chicken breast hot off the grill, topped with Southwest Ranch Dressing
> Dave's Single
- quarter-pound of fresh beef, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle, ketchup, mayo & onion on a toasted bun
> Chocolate Frosty
- fresh, frozen ice cream dessert that's thick enough to use a spoon and smooth enough to use a straw.
Wendy's was founded by Dave Thomas in 1969, in Columbus, Ohio, and now has almost 7,000 sites. The vast majority of these are franchised. Only 357 units remain company-operated, as more and more of them were replaced with franchised stores over the past eight years.
Despite Wendy’s reducing the number of company-operated restaurants, the chain has continued to expand internationally. Indonesia, Puerto Rico and the Philippines led the way in terms of countries with the highest number of non-domestic Wendy’s sites.
