Pak Mecca plans to reopen former Tulip Foods facility

Sandwell Council is considering plans from Pak Mecca Meats Ltd to reopen the former Tulip Foods meat processing plant in Tipton, with the creation of 200 jobs.

Birmingham-based Pak Mecca, which is headed up by Amer Choudhery, is negotiating with the factory’s owners, Pilgrim's Pride.

The company aims to acquire the land and existing buildings at George Henry Road, Great Bridge, to open an abattoir to supply halal meat products.

The closure of the Tulups Food site last year saw the loss of 600 jobs.
