New state-of-the-art Sainsbury’s for Northamptonshire

Sainsbury’s has today welcomed customers through the doors of its newest supermarket.

The state-of-the-art 20,000 sq ft store in Brackley, Northamptonshire, is the first new supermarket the retailer has opened this year and is a great example of Sainsbury’s strategy to put Food First and to offer customers great value, high quality and tasty products.

The store has over 13,800 products to choose from, including hundreds of meat, fish and dairy items, a large variety of meat-free and plant based options, plus ready-made meals, and food-to-go choices.

Sainsbury’s is proud to offer customers delicious food and as soon as customers enter the new store they’re greeted with the retailer’s fresh produce offering, from potatoes to parsnips, beans to bananas and corn to cauliflower. The store also has a bakery that will prepare over 100 loaves of fresh bread on site every day, alongside other delicious baked goods including cakes and rolls.

The supermarket includes an Argos store inside and customers can also enjoy the convenience of a six pump petrol station on site. There is parking available for 250 cars, alongside motorbike parking and bicycle hoops for customers riding to the store. The store is open 7am – 10pm Monday through to Saturday and 10am – 4pm on Sundays.

The new store will employ 147 team members, 129 of whom are new to Sainsbury’s and 18 internal transfers, bringing with them years of experience working in the business. The construction of the new store has also supported hundreds of jobs, including engaging around 245 tradespeople working on the site during the course of the development.

Sainsbury’s is committed to operating its stores sustainably in line with its ambitious target to be Net Zero across its own operations by 2040. The new store has impressive environmental credentials including customer electric vehicle charging points and the latest generation of energy efficient LED light fittings.

The supermarket has strived to be water efficient by including rainwater harvesting, water meters to track water flow to build towards water neutrality, water saving taps, reduced flush toilets plus waterless urinals.

The store is also more energy efficient through the installation of a refrigeration integrated heating and cooling system and demand controlled ventilation and energy efficient fans that minimise electricity and heat consumption.

As part of the retailer’s wider commitment, Sainsbury’s has also fitted its Brackley store with a brand new Bee Hotel, as it works to help the bee population thrive and to protect the environment now and for future generations.

The Sainsbury’s team in Brackley will play an active role in the local community and support Sainsbury’s nationwide community programmes and charity partners. Earlier this month Sainsbury’s also announced a £5 million investment towards community support, which includes a £1 million pot for stores to contribute to local charities and good causes.

From 1-14 December, as part of the supermarket’s ‘Brighten a Million Christmases’ initiative, Sainsbury’s is also inviting customers to donate food and other essential products or cash in store and online and will match every donation, doubling every customer’s contribution.

Patrick Dunne, Sainsbury’s Property Director, said, “We’re very excited to be adding another store to our estate so we can serve the Brackley community fresh and affordable food.

'At Sainsbury’s we have a strategy to put food first and this new and modern store will make it very convenient for residents to shop for delicious, nutritious and great value food seven days a week.

'Brackley has told us loud and clear that they wanted a new Sainsbury’s and we’re proud to be opening the doors early so customers can do their Christmas shopping conveniently and safely.”

Paul Dyer, Sainsbury’s Brackley Store Manager, said, “We have a very excited team who can’t wait to get to work to provide local customers with a great fresh offer alongside the convenience they need.

'Everyone has worked very hard during training and to get the store ready to open for our first day in business. It’s a very special day for the team and we appreciate the support of the community.”

Cllr. Bagot-Webb, Chairman of South Northants Council said: “I’m delighted that the new Sainsbury’s supermarket in Brackley is now open for the local community to enjoy in time for Christmas. The new store looks fantastic and I’m very much looking forward to meeting its colleagues and exploring all of the great features the store has to offer.”

Cllr. Chris Cartmell, Town Mayor of Brackley said: “I’d like to welcome Sainsbury’s to Brackley and I’m sure local residents can’t wait to visit the new store as they’ve watched it being built over the last six months. I’m also very pleased that the store has created over 100 jobs in the town. Having had a preview of the store already, I believe it will be a real asset to the local area and I’d like to wish Sainsbury’s and the new colleagues every success in this new venture.”

Sainsbury’s is excited that Brackley residents will also enjoy its Price Lock commitment and everyday low prices, making it easier to feed families for less at breakfast, lunch and right through to dinner. Sainsbury’s Price Lock features over 1,400 household staples, from fresh and frozen produce, to toiletries as well as some homewares and Argos products.

The Brackley store is also open in time for local customers to benefit from current promotions underway including Black Friday Argos deals and buy six or more and save 25 per cent on selected bottles of champagne, sparkling and wine.

Brackley customers will also be able to take advantage of Sainsbury’s Christmas Food to order to take the stress out of Christmas meals. Shoppers can select the fresh and delicious products they want for their special Christmas meal or impressive Boxing Day buffet, and collect from the Brackley store at their chosen time.
