Oblix at The Shard reopens with new menus

Now seven years old, the award-winning Oblix at The Shard has reopened, following its closure during the pandemic.

Reopening with their customers' safety at its forefront, the restaurant has resumed serving the sophisticated, seasonal dishes for which it is known, from simplified menus perfect for household celebrations, across its two unique spaces; Oblix West and Oblix East.

Turn right at the entrance for Oblix West, a contemporary yet relaxed restaurant with views from St. Pauls to the West End. Turn left for Oblix East, a bar and lounge designed for a creative, cosmopolitan crowd, serving an imaginative cocktail menu, accompanied by elevated bar snacks.

The new menus have been carefully orchestrated, in conjunction with chef-restaurateur Rainer Becker, by executive chef Marcus Eaves; a culinary wunderkind who gained his first Michelin star aged just 27 at L’Autre Pied in Marylebone. Cooking on the spit roast, charcoal grill and wood-fired ovens, Marcus showcases the best of British and European produce.

With Oblix West now opening for dinner from 5pm on weekdays, and 4pm on weekends, new dishes to the menu include Giant crab cakes with watercress & wasabi mayo, Beef carpaccio, mustard, parmesan & herbs, and Zucchini fries with garlic & cucumber yogurt for starters, alongside mains which champion the grill menu for which Oblix is best known.

Choices here run from Line caught Sea Bass with lemon hollandaise to BBQ Black Cod and a wide array of steaks, with a choice of delicious sauces from Béarnaise, Chimichurri and Red wine sauce. Favourite desserts such as the Pecan nut & chocolate bar and New York cheesecake with blackberries & hazelnut, have remained on the menu.

The restaurant has also launched a Chef’s Surprise Tasting menu, which will change quarterly. Designed especially to honour special occasions such as Birthdays or Anniversaries, The Celebration Series has been devised by Eaves and his chefs, and will celebrate a key ingredient, by both highlighting it and demonstrating what it is best paired with.

The first in the series, and currently available to order, is The Celebration of Beef, which celebrates the pivotal ingredient through 10 dishes designed for the whole table, consisting of one household or bubble, to share. The tasting menu costs £90 a per person, and further details about the next theme in the Celebration series will be announced in due course.

Weekends at Oblix will continue to be the celebration that they always have been; brunch will run from 12pm to 3.30pm in Oblix West where guests can choose between two luxurious bottomless offerings; the Classic and the Champagne.

Guests can enjoy starters such as Lobster salad with lemon & shallot dressing, Steak tartare with aged cheddar & beef tomato and Truffle flatbread with pancetta & ricotta, as well as mains including the iconic Wagyu burger or Whole Dover sole with garlic butter, to plant-based dishes such as Wild mushroom orzo with cashew cheese & summer truffle.

A dessert platter consisting of Oblix signatures is the perfect end to the brunch, enjoyed alongside an unrivalled view of West London.

Meanwhile, Oblix East will serve the ‘London Afternoon Tea’ from 12pm to 6pm on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

A modern twist on the traditional English classic, it includes freshly baked scones and clotted cream, finger sandwiches and pastries, while incorporating local ingredients such as chai spices from Brick Lane market and fresh honeycomb from beehives in Harrow. There is a choice of five different blends of tea, from Hibiscus flower tea to Oblix's own afternoon tea blend.

Oblix East is a cosmopolitan lounge and bar that channels the creative energy of East London, which stretches out below in views from the Gherkin and the Walkie-Talkie to Tower Bridge and beyond. More casual than Oblix West, window tables are complemented by brushed leather sofas in the lounge area, and bar seating for walk-ins.

The cocktail menu is overseen by the talented James Shearer (Global Beverage Director Zuma & Roka), who has chosen to reopen with a menu of Oblix classics from the past 7 years, ranging from the classic Rambling Rose (Tanqueray London dry gin, rose, sparkling wine) to the indulgent King of New York (bulleit bourbon whiskey, sweet vermouth, hibiscus, chocolate bitters).

Oblix was the first restaurant to open in The Shard back in Spring 2013 and continues to set sky-high standards. Serving sophisticated, seasonal dishes along with views from the tallest building in Western Europe, it is another must-visit destination from the globally established Azumi Ltd, created and founded by innovative chef- restaurateur Rainer Becker and partner Arjun Waney, with restaurants including Zuma and Roka.

Oblix at The Shard is observing all Tier 2 COVID Restrictions, including ensuring that all bookings are from one household or support bubble.
